In this Americana Landscape Painting, "Union Railroad Hot Metal Bridge," an original oil on panel, I was inspired by the wonderful bridges around Pittsburgh. This the Union Railroad Hot Metal Bridge leads to the Carrie Furnace, yet another relic of the steel era in this region. This beautiful old iron bridge along with the other lasting and enduring old bridges that abound the area offers standing testimony to the determination of the incredibly hard working people who made Pittsburgh a great place. I chose this bridge because it seemed to say all those things at first glance so I painted it. Why do I consider this an American Landscape painting? This kind of subject on the American landscape shows how we got here as a country as we built and crossed these bridges on our way to the present.
