- In this classical still life Painting, "Orange
on Shelf," an original oil on panel, I place an orange on
a shelf and when the light was just right so it was saturating
the slices and causing the inside to glow I painted the subject.
The right background, the right light, the right orange, and
the right artist, you have a still life. the trick is to finish
the painting by days end or sooner. Or, you can do what I did
and eat another orange and savor the one for painting,,,
