In this Southwestern Landscape Painting, "Valdez Valley," an original oil on panel, I was inspired to capture the serene and peaceful ambient in the Valdez valley. This beautiful place is located 7 miles form Taos NM and is on the way to the Ski Valley. I stayed in Valdez Valley for several weeks in 1994 and at that time I devoted my energies to sketching and painting this composition. This particular location is at the base of the Sangre De Christo mountains as its forces of nature flow in a path of life that follows a winding topography through the high desert landscape on the way to joining with the Rio Grande river. I loved the simple, clean way the eye looked through all the trees that encroach the center of the cultivated field as the eyes vantage point leads to the horizon line some 50 miles away. This beautiful and green microcosm seemed so vivid with life and fertility in the land that I had to speak to it in a painting. The weeks I stayed in this valley were amongst the best I enjoyed in the northern New Mexico region surrounding Taos.
