- In this Southwestern
landscape painting, "Purple Haze," an original
oil on panel, I was inspired to create a painting using only
alizarin crimson, ivory black and a white that is an ivory tone.
This painting composition is purely from imagination in an honest
attempt to allow myself ultimate freedom in the arrangement.
This is not a real place so I give myself the privilege of freely
arranging the elements in the subject to pursue the best drama
and luminosity possible. Here in this painting, keeping it simple
was the way I chose to arrive at my desired outcome. Painting
in a near monochrome often frees the faculties of mind allowing
me to give my all to the subject. I have always loved the desert,
it's totally honest and you cant argue with such greatness in
the face of its' ancient wisdom, but you can of course speak
to it in many ways. I choose paint.
